Little Girl's Secrets

Hyrum took this picture and I think it is great. I played around with it on Picasa which is a free photo editing/organizing software from Google. It is really simple to make changes. Here is what I did

My friend Lenor raked up a big pile of leaves in her front yard and invited us to come play. The kids had fun and it made for a great photo op

Snowball

It snowed when we were at my parent's house after Christmas. Annabelle loved it. I wanted to post this picture because it is cute. I was going to wait and try to figure out how to erase the cardboard out of the background, but I don't know when I'll figure it out. By then I would probably have taken many more pictures. So I just played with the brightness and contrast and I thought it looked pretty cute so here it is

Wedding shots

Here are some pictures I took at my nephew's wedding. He had a real photographer taking pictures and I tried to stay out of his way so as to not be annoying. So the pictures I took were of them from behind and of the things I find make the best memories----the little details.

Why I'm blogging

I have a friend, Jami, who is a professional photographer in Utah and she sold me her old camera. (in fact I will be listing her website on this page once I get around to it--check it out, she's great) Anyhow, it is a digital SLR and I have been wanting to take the plunge for years now. It's one of those things I always wanted to do, but would stop myself by saying-"It's too expensive, I don't have the time" blah blah blah. So as i have been worrying about Hyrum getting into school I decided to distract myself by finally doing what I've always wanted to do -learn photography. So this whole blogspot thing is actually my outlet to show what I am doing and for people to give me feedback and tell me what I've done wrong or right, and what I could do better. It is easier for me to post here than attach pictures to multiple e-mails. So I will be posting pictures as I take them. I'm taking a digital photography class starting the 17th so hopefully I'll learn something. We'll see . . .

my first photoshop attempt

Whoa, I never realized how intricate Photoshop would be. It is overwhelming. Anyhow, I gave it shot today with a photo I took from the wedding. I need a book on how to do Photoshop and also a tutor. Hopefully the photography class I am taking will show me some tips. I tried a tip I read that Tara Whitney wrote down on her typepad account--she is great photographer. Anyhow, I don't know what I'm doing so it didn't turn out as expected but I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out. I wanted to add a white border to the picture too but I looked and looked and have NO idea how to do it. Feel free to let me know if anyone reading this knows how-thanks.
