Lots o' shots

Ok, so you're getting a narrative. This family hired me to do a shoot of their family and then also some of the husband's family (brother/sisters/parents). I got so many great shots I decided to split it into two blog entries. I met this couple years ago through my husband's best friend. They are super nice and their kids are super cute. The little one is a total stinker and when we'd try to get her to smile or do anything she'd say "Mo". My second baby used to also say "Mo" for no and so I have a special place in my heart for stinker kids. They were all full of personality and so cute. I had so much fun I have to narrate.

Is the little one asleep? NO, she's just pretending. Every time I pull these up I laugh out loud. It looks so convincing.

How sweet is this shot of dad and daughter

This one is so intimate---I love it

Yes this pathway is in Arizona, we're not all cactus

She looks so tiny and sweet

Um . . . hot

They were so cold by the end they were wrapped up in their parents coats

I love shot where part of a face is cut off--- I have no idea why

The focus point on this is actually the dad's head, but I love the shot with both girls blurred

See, I told ya

It's always exciting when you get a shot with everyone looking and smiling

I love uber close shots, how beautiful are the mom's eyes. Super foxy

I have a tendency to only shoot super close shots, I'm proud of myself when I step back.

I also like headless pictures? I think it's the details.

I love when little personalities shine

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Merry Christmas! This is our card this year. I knew we'd never get a family shot together. So I grabbed a few shots that I had already done and I took some shots just for the card. My friend Ashley took the photo of Hyrum and I. Thanks Ash. And I gave the pictures and the words to my uber talented friend Molly and this is what she sent back to me. It's great to have talented friends. I erased the girl's names, they were on the card like mine and Hyrums. these pictures were all taken in my new house. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!!!

My fam damly

So it's super hard to do family shots. So I decided not to do them, but then I was having my friend Ashley come over just to shoot my husband and I, and decided to put the kids in the shot. Thanks Ash! Troubles I have with taking family photos (for my own family)

1. Getting 3 kids under 6 to all look at the camera at the same time is ridiculous

2. Having those three looking and having their eyes open .. . miracle

3. Husband doesn't notice he's wearing SUPER white socks, the rest of us aren't

4. I nitpick my smile in each and every one

So my Christmas card doesn't have a family photo, it has individual ones. I will probably post it Christmas Eve when everyone else should have received theirs by then. So here are the best shots, or at least my favorites and why.

Best overall family shot

Best couple shot

My favorite family shot (minus white socks)

Best authentic capture of expression

Best shot of my awesome hair cut (Darcy at Hairdo salon)

Lovin this family

I love this family. The mom and I were roomates in college days, and the dad and I dated right before his mission. That seems weird, but then I set them up when they got home, and 8 days later they were engaged, and here they are happy as all get out. Their kids are ridiculously cute and fun. The family is super fun and didn't even care that I had the kids jump up and down on the couch. I loved doing this shoot. Everyone is comfortable and that makes it fun for everyone, including me.

Black & White

There is something emotional about viewing all of your images in black and white. I've never done it before, but this family wanted all black and white. I get a photography magazine, and in it one of the photographers had taken shots of generations of women in a family. To focus on them he had them dress in black with black background. This is what this family did and the results are stunning. As I was going through each image trying to choose my favorites (very hard to do) I started to get teary eyed, and I have only met the family once. Many of the photos I chose were serious faces. This family was super happy and fun, but their solemn faces were just stunning, I had to post them. Sometime I do a shoot and think---I'm an ok photographer, and then I do others and I think--wow I can really do this (which is a shock to me since I have never, EVER, been artistic). This was one. We took these shots under their back porch for fear of rain. I'm glad we did it, it was great new experience, and I love the result. I had asked the mom if she had any chairs we could use, and jokingly she said--"We have a luv sac" and I said--"Go get it". It was fun, made some great shots. So check out this gorgeous family . . . all in black & white.

Keepin' up with the Joneses

No kidding it took about 1 1/2 hours to upload these photos to blogger. Both blogger and my internet hate me. Luckily, one of my friends was on gmail instant messaging and that kept me company. Enough with my bothers.

Meet the Joneses, these are they whom we all try to keep up with. Nah, not really. Just another one of my girls. I'm starting to realize a pattern. My friends pictures tend to be a little more artsy than other shoots. It's not that I try to be more artsy, it's just that me and my subjects are more comfortable so I get more natural smiles, crazier shots. I guess that's the benefits of hanging out with moi (sidenote, I just googled english-french and got the correct spelling, the internet and google rocks). Check out the gorgeous hair on all of these ladies--um . . . to . . .die . . . for. Their house is gorgeous too. And I want to point out that their lawn needed mowing---right Mr. Jones? (insider). Oh and down at the bottom there is one of the thumbsucker holding a piece of her mother's hair . . . priceless. I have a soft spot for little thumb suckers. Enjoy this gorgeous fam. They rock.
