Breathtaking

I know we all think our children are beautiful. Each of my children have their distinct features that I think make them gorgeous. But this child, when the light hits her in the right way--she is breathtaking. She has THE most glossy, reflective eyes with lush long dark eyelashes. And her hair, dark, thick, gorgeous with just the right highlights. A photographers dream. It's rare I can get a shot of them because she starts to squint and do silly things when I try to shoot distinctly to capture her eyes. In these shots I had rented a Macro lens and was just playing trying to take shots of her eyes and eyelashes. These are not framing sort of images. Just pieces of images. Her gorgeous eyes, skin, lips and hair. This kid is a stunner. Boy am I in trouble.

For mom

The brown headed girl in these photos is my super rad babysitter on occasion. So for Christmas we decided to surprise her mom with some photos. When I saw her mom at church after Christmas she got all teary eyed just telling me about it. Apparently she cried on Christmas too. This shoot was fun, these are some of the coolest peeps and I just did whatever I wanted. It was their idea to shoot in front of the van. I LOVE IT. I wish I could run into vans like that more often. This was a super fun shoot.

Breaking the Rules

So I feel like I have kind of lost myself as an artist. When I first started shooting, I did a lot of chopping people's heads off and odd angles. The more I take classes and learn the "rules" and the more I do shoots of people, I end up taking the picture that I think the family wants instead of shooting the pictures that I want. I follow the rules. So in order to relight my fire I took Josie (my daughter) out for a little bit of playing. OK, a lot of playing. But I couldn't help it. She's my most photogenic--and most playful. It feels good just to break the rules.

A historic house

This house is in the historic District and has the most gorgeous lush greenery. The family was very nice to let us shoot in front of it. And the family is gorgeous too. Easy Peasy. Shoots with only two kids who can follow instructions are so fun. Check out these awesome shots.

This is what my family looks like when a ridiculously talented photographer shoots us. We won an auction for Nie with Sloan Photographers. Seriously--love them all.

A little rockabilly

This is Beck in his blessing outfit @ 3 months. Most people put their kids in white but you don't have to, so we didn't. Mostly because everything we found was puffy and shiny--not good. Come on, what's cuter than a little baby tie and little baby sweater with patches (thanks Aunt T). Hyrum did his hair--all coolio like that. I have to say he is one handsome boy. They both are. Doesn't Hyrum look slim? He's been running. Anyhoodles, this was taken in our super ugly back yard. We HAVE to get our house painted. I realized in these pictures that my house tone is pretty close to my skin tone. Not flattering. Oh, and that picture of me-Hy took it. Pretty good eh? And the picture of both of us was taken by our friend Paul, I just told him to put the red dot on me and shoot. Also impressive.
