All about full sun

This, for me, is lazy picture taking. I just set it to Aperture priority and shoot away. Love it--no thinking required. And since I shoot in Raw I could fix the exposure, which sometimes, was WAY off.

Anyhow--Full sun is my new love. If you haven't done it--try it. You may just fall like I did.

Recipe for picture

for lurkers who want to know how:

Set ISO to something high ( I think mine was 800 or 1,000)
Turn off all of thelights in your house
Use a tripod OR
Do what I did--Prop your camera up with dirty clothes you find laying around, and use your timer so you don't have movement from you pushing the button
Set your Shutter Speed to about .5 seconds
Tell your kids to be really still (but your 2 year old won't so don't even hope)

Voila!

No photoshop or anything

Easy Peasy

It's crazy when you do a shoot of a family that only has three kids and they are all older. It doesn't take much time, you can go alot of places without worrying about someone wandering off, and you don't expend alot of energy trying to get reactions. Nice.

My kind of shoot

So I know that I say around the Holidays I don't post pictures of families so they can surprise people on their Christmas card. Well--this family was just too fun, and they live in Colorado, so I ignored my rule. There is some sort of thing I have with Converse. If a family shows up in them--my creative juices just flow. Can't explain it. This family was super chill and fun and candid. They knew exactly the look they wanted and it turned out fab. I also just love this alley. It's actually the first time I've chosen to shoot against this wall. So happy I did.

Camera for sale!

SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!

I'm selling my Nikon D70. It's the camera I started on. It's great. I am the second owner--the first was my friend Jami Broadbent, a photographer in Utah. It is a really good camera. It comes with a battery grip (which make you look like you know more than you do), two batteries, battery charger, original manual, SB 50DX flash and a Nikkor 24-85mm f3.5 lens. Here is what Wikipedia said about it. It's better than a D40, it is an older version of what is now the D90. I purchased it in January of 2006 and used it until July of this year. So if you search my archives, anything prior to that was taken with this camera.

$400 in cash and you can take it home.

Email me at: jillcandlandphotography@gmail.com

For kicks I'll throw in a little session with me where I show you how to use it.

Handsome little guy

Remember this Shoot I did of the ridiculously foxy pregnant girl? Her baby is super cute. This is my husband's cousin and his wife. It's not shocker that the baby is cute--look at them. My favorite shot is the last one with the stripes. I wanted to post it in color but for some reason the shadows made by his body were yellow, so I had to convert it. Still I'd love a big canvas of my son in a shot like that. I'm considering buying that blanket (Target) just to recreate it.

Handsome family Take 2

Last year I did one of the best shoots I've ever done, and it was of this family. So there was a lot of pressure on me to get another good shoot. But turns out it had less to do with my skill and more to do with the fact that the entire family is good looking. So mostly I just point and click. Take a looksie.
